The Orange County Wing Chun Association has a Hawaiian motto:  "Holopono me ka lokahi", which means "Move forward with righteousness and unity".

"Woe to the man who throws the first blow" or "ku'i'akahi"--It is not a righteous act, and the god of lua, Ku'i-a-lua (literally, "the second blow") will not support it.  Honor lies with those who rise to such a challenge, and Ku'i-a-lua will respond to their call for help...."

--LUA ART OF THE HAWAIIAN WARRIOR, PAGE 10
BISHOP MUSEUM PRESS

Although in these times our religious beliefs differ from those in the days of the Hawaiian Martial Art of "Lua", the Koa Mana ("Warrior Spirit") is cultivated in our Chinese (now American) style of martial art.  Bak Fu Sifu is a proud graduate of the University of Hawaii R.O.T.C. "Koa" (Warrior) Battalion and has endeavored to respect and honor these warriors from Hawaii, who, like the Chinese people that have migrated here, are now part of the United States.  We remember to be thankful for their fighting spirit and culture that they have added to the U.S. today.

The Orange County Wing Chun Association is a family-owned and oriented, "closed door" Chinese martial arts school ("kwoon").  Wing Chun is a true Shaolin Kung Fu style that was passed down by family to the Late Grandmaster Yip Man, who passed the art to Grandmaster Wong Long Ching who is living and teaching Wing Chun (Ving Tsun) today in Hong Kong.

Grandmaster Wong Long Ching and Grandmaster Wong Tock taught Grandmaster Yeung Biu (Yeung Tin Yao), who was one of the last persons to receive the Late Grandmaster Yip Man's approval to teach Wing Chun in Hong Kong prior to his death in 1972.  Grandmaster Yeung immigrated to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1971 and was introduced as Sifu to Stanley Au Sifu's students and thereafter began teaching in Hawaii.  He opened his own school in 1973.  In 1977, Master Bobby Cheng, Master Robert Tome, Master Donald Swain and Master John DiVirgilio were the principal instructors of Yeung Sifu's Kwoon at the Armed Forces Y.M.C.A. in Honolulu.  Master John DiVirgilio was principle as Chief Instructor for many years before he succeeded Grandmaster Yeung Sifu as the Chairman of the Hawaii Wing Chun Kung-Fu Association in 1996.

Master DiVirgilio and Bak Fu were daily training partners in college and the friendship-student relationship ("Si-Dai Si-Hing" or "younger-brother elder-brother") continues to this day.  Alan R. "Bak Fu" Vasquez started his studies in 1977, was granted permission to teach Wing Chun by Grandmaster Yeung in 1979, graduated in 1979 from Chaminade University, Honolulu, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Infantry branch and then started his active duty as an officer.  In 1978, during her residence in Hawaii, Mrs. Diane "Simo" Vasquez became a student of Grandmaster Yeung as well.  She became the first woman to be promoted to Advanced Student Blue-Shirt Black-Sash with 2 Blue Stripes.

Bak Fu Sifu returned to Hawaii from 1981-84 and assisted instruction under the guidance of Grandmaster Yeung, Master DiVirgilio and Master Arthur Kodani while stationed as an Infantry Officer and later as a Military Intelligence Officer with the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks and the DCSINT, WESTCOM, Ft. Shafter.  CPT Vasquez left active duty to attend law school but was injured while assigned to 1st Special Forces Group, and was subsequently retired from active duty.  He later graduated Juris Doctor in 1988.  Orange County was the place of origin for Bak Fu's family and his first students began here in 1979.  Bak Fu Sifu and many of his graduate students are recognized as Instructors with the Ving Tsun Athletic Association (V.T.A.A.) in Hong Kong, the association started by Late Grandmaster Yip Man.To date Bak Fu Sifu has had more than 400 students he has trained as members of the Orange County Wing Chun Association.

Aloha ,

My wife Diane and I founded the Orange County Wing Chun Association. We are dedicated to preserving the Chinese martial arts culture as it has been passed down to us by our Sifu, Grandmaster Yeung Biu, who immigrated to Honolulu from Hong Kong. We both studied with him in the 1970's.

Information on location and times are available on the web: http://wingchunassoc.com/schools/usa/california.htm. The environment ( is private, sometimes referred to as a "closed door school." Because Wing Chun is predicated on a sense of touch and autonomic nervous response to learned stimuli, one must feel the touch of another person to understand the principles and strategies used by a Wing Chun practitioner, therefore Wing Chun mandates that instruction be in small groups or individually with hands on. Students become our Wing Chun Family. Graduate students participate in teaching at all levels. All levels come to class at the same times and students are free to leave and come as they please; however students that aren't working on their kung fu or disruptive or not disciplined may be asked to find another school. All practice is in a controlled environment. Bad behavior will not be tolerated and students are free to opt out of any activity that is too dangerous for them and some other activity will be provided.

We are members of the Wing Chun Kung Fu Association and many of the instructors are also members of the   Ving Tsun Athletic Association, Hong Kong and the Ving Tsun Athletic Association (VTAA) in Hong Kong. The VTAA is the world headquarters established by the late Grandmaster Yip Man who is credited with bringing Wing Chun (Ving Tsun) from behind the Bamboo Curtain (Communist China) to Hong Kong in 1949, and for being the late Bruce Lee's teacher (Sifu). The VTAA has been dicredited as of late, students are now members of the Ving Tsun Association, Hong Kong with Grandmaster Wong Long Ching as it's elder. I have taken my students back to China to meet many Grandmasters and members of our extended Wing Chun Family. You can see videos and photos posted on my website: www.WingChunAssoc.com. Remember even though the video is out there you still need a Sifu to help you feel and understand Wing Chun.

Please feel free to call if you have any questions. 949 472-8642 or 949 929-6026 cell. Night classes are five days a week and membership is $100-$200 a month for undergraduate students. Daytime classes are $200/month two hours twice a week. Private lessons are $200 for a 1hr 45 minute lesson or $30 for a 15 minute lesson.
All Active Duty Servicemen and Women are free.
